The mechanism
In a proof-of-work chain, energy scales with the reward: more valuable blocks attract more hashing, indefinitely. In EmpoorioChain's Aura + GRANDPA, the set of validators is known; each authors in its slot and votes on finality. Adding hash power buys nothing. Energy is servers × power per server, and the only lever is how many validators the network has and how they are hosted.
At two
Two mid-range servers in one data centre. Whatever the exact draw — unmeasured — it is comparable to a small office's IT closet. Publishing it as a per-transaction figure would be meaningless: a testnet with a few dozen real transactions a day makes each one look expensive; a burst of 700 makes each look free. The number tells you about the denominator, not the chain.
At ten
The decentralization gate's minimum. Ten servers across at least two geographies — still a rounding error against any proof-of-work network, and still not worth a headline.
At a hundred
The staking economics document models operator viability up to ~500 validators. A hundred validators at the recommended spec (8 cores, 32 GB, NVMe) is a modest data-centre row. The chain's block time and finality do not change with validator count in a way that costs energy; GRANDPA's vote traffic grows, and that is bandwidth, not power.
The honest comparison
EmpoorioChain's energy footprint is dominated not by consensus but by everything around it: the Ailoos inference and training servers (real GPU/CPU work), the app backends, the phones that train models (borrowing their owners' charging). Counting only the chain would be the flattering choice; the ecosystem's rule against unproven figures applies equally to flattering ones.
What the ecosystem will publish
A measured per-server draw with PUE, dated, under artifacts/, when it is measured — and a statement of the denominator with it. Until then: proof of stake, two servers, no number.
The report this replaces
Was another network's energy report from 2021, with its figures. EmpoorioChain has no 2021; it has a September 2026 with two servers and a rule.
